Basketry is my passion. I began weaving in 1996 after taking a class while visiting a friend in Alaska. Other than that one class, I am mostly self taught and work out of my home in Green Valley, AZ.

Initially I had focused on functional baskets but now my basketry has evolved into designing small, intricate, artistic baskets woven with fibers such as waxed linen or waxed cotton thread and silk thread with beads incorporated into the weaving as a design element. My inspiration comes from the colors of the southwest landscape and Native American weavings. I usually start with a palette of waxed linen or cotton cord colors and some beads and see where the weaving takes me. I no longer weave functional baskets.

My other favorite medium is pine needle weaving on gourds. Most gourds are left in their natural state (how can one improve on nature??), and others are dyed with leather or ink dyes. I have become intrigued with the many dried botanicals that are now available (jacaranda pods, curved pods, lotus pods to name a few) and now embellish most of my gourds with these along with beads (having found the whole world of beads at the Tuscon gem show).
